The number of adults swimming at least once a week in England has fallen by more than three quarters of a million in the past decade – a 23.7% drop.

The drop in participation comes despite more than 500 new swimming pools opening across the country since 2006.

Sport England data shows 2.5 million people swam weekly in 2015-16, down 776,000 from 3.27 million in 2005-06.

The Amateur Swimming Association said more people were choosing activities such as aquacise and wild swimming.

Swimming, however, remains England’s most popular mass participation sport, with about one in every 20 people aged over 14 swimming at least once a week.

When the 2020 Olympics gets underway in Tokyo, Project Sky Canvas hopes to paint the sky above with shooting stars.

The plan is to put a micro-satellite in orbit that will fire tiny particles into the atmosphere.

As they fall to Earth they will burn up and become on-demand shooting stars that can be directed to any chosen location and be seen within a radius of up to 200km (124 miles).

If you don’t like heights we suggest you avoid swimming at The Hotel Hubertus. This terrifying infinity pool is suspended 40 feet above the ground and has a glass window to give brave bathers the sensation of swimming through the sky.

Overlooking the Dolomites, the 82-feet-long-pool is part of a new extension at Hotel Hubertus, a wellness resort for skiers and hikers in South Tyrol, Italy.

Competitive swimmers are looking to improve their performance with a new piece of tech from TritonWear. This new piece of wearable tech analyzes nearly every aspect of their swim and records it in real time to a tablet or computer.

The device itself is rather unobtrusive and attaches to the strap of your goggles. After powering on, it uses motion sensors to record stroke count, turn time, time underwater, and much more. By beaming the data directly to an iPad, a coach can then analyze and compare specific swimmers across an entire team.

The head of Kenya’s swimming federation, Ben Ekumbo, was reportedly found hiding under a bed before being arrested as part of the country’s inquiry into missing money and equipment following Rio 2016.

Ekumbo, who is also the vice-president of Kenya’s Olympic committee, is the fifth senior official to be arrested as part of the inquiry. Police officers allegedly found boxes of Nike running shoes and unused Kenya uniforms that were supposed to be for athletes at the Games. Investigators are looking into a report that senior officials stole more than £6.4m in expenses and equipment.
