Rio Olympics head Carlos Nuzman formally charged with corruption
Carlos Nuzman, the head of last year’s Rio de Janeiro Olympics, has been charged by Brazilian federal prosecutors with corruption, money laundering, tax evasion and running a criminal organization.
Brazilian prosecutors announced the formal charges on Wednesday.
The 75-year-old Nuzman was arrested two weeks ago and is being held in prison.
Prosecutors also filed corruption charges against Nuzman’s right-hand man at the Rio Olympic organizing committee, Leonardo Gryner.
In the filing, prosecutors said the two “promoted, formed, financed, and integrated a criminal organization aimed at committing the crimes of corruption and embezzlement in detriment of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Olympic Committee and the organizing committee of the Rio 2016 Olympics.â€

Fremantle Leisure Centre lifeguards honoured for bravery
Fremantle Leisure Centre lifeguards, James Annetts, Tia Stonehill, Parris Laurie and Andrea Thackray were honoured for their bravery in saving the life of a swimmer earlier this year.
The team received a Royal Lifesaving Society Gold Star for bravery at a ceremony at Government House for saving the life of 71-year-old Ian Mitchell, who suffered a serious stroke while swimming at the Leisure Centre in August.
