Olympic swim champion Ruta Meilutyte retires at 22 after missing doping tests
Lithuanian swimmer Ruta Meilutyte announced her retirement on Wednesday at the age of 22 after missing three doping tests, ending a career in which she became Olympic and world champion.
Lithuania’s swimming federation said earlier this month that Meilutyte faced a suspension of up to two years for missing three drug tests, meaning she would be ruled out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“The swimmer took full responsibility for missing all tests,” the federation said, adding that Meilutyte had failed to properly inform international anti-doping authorities about her whereabouts.

This one is a bit of a treasure from our video archives. Last year, Canon Ambassador Samo Vidic wanted to capture the story of Slovenian swimmer Darko Duric. Using his Canon EOS 6D Mark II for the portrait session and Canon EOS 5D Mark IV for the under water shots, along with, his Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM and Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lenses, he captured the Paralympic swimmer in action.

Father gains new life mission after losing his toddler to drowning
One Saline County father has a mission to make sure other parents don’t suffer the loss he went through when his child drowned.
Brandon Love faced a parent’s worst nightmare nearly three years ago when his 2-year-old son, Bentley, drowned in a neighbor’s swimming pool.
Fast forward to now, the sound of splashing water is a constant reminder of his new life purpose.
“I have kind of made it my mission to be a water-safety warrior,†said Love. “Start swimming lessons with your kids as soon as possible, and please be vigilant. Always be aware.”

Swimming in the Deep End | Dylan Qualls | TEDxMcHenry
Nearly half of Americans are afraid of swimming, says long-time swim instructor Dylan Qualls, and that is something that should be remedied. In his talk, Dylan will share why he believes it is so important for us all to learn how to swim in the deep end. After all, the lessons learned in the pool go well beyond the edge of the water. Dylan started swimming competitively at the age of four, for the McHenry Marlins Swim team. He would go on to become a captain on the McHenry High School swim team for both his Junior and Senior seasons. For the past two summers Dylan has worked as a swim lesson instructor for McHenry Parks and Recreation. He finds great joy in teaching kids the sport he loves so much. After Joining National Honors Society, a service based organization, Dylan found a new passion for serving his community. Just recently Dylan combined his two passions of service and swimming and he started a new program called Sunday Swim Lessons. Dylan hopes this will allow more kids, that would not have had the chance otherwise, to get into the sport of swimming.
