Swimmer describes saving driver of car that crashed into pool at north Seattle LA Fitness
A Seattle man is being called a hero after he helped save a 69-year-old driver who crashed through the glass wall of an LA Fitness center — the car landing in the middle of the swimming pool.
The bizarre incident happened just before 8 a.m. Monday at the LA Fitness near Aurora Avenue North and 132nd Street.
The man was parked in his car in a nearby handicap space outside the building when he hit the gas pedal instead of the emergency brake, Mark Jamieson with the Seattle Police Department said.
Three people were swimming laps in the pool as the car plunged into the water and quickly sank to the bottom, said Kristin Tinsley of the Seattle Fire Department.
