A respected Japanese virologist on Wednesday said if the Tokyo Olympics were tomorrow, the games probably couldn’t be held because of the fast-spreading virus from Wuhan, China.

“We need to find the best way to have a safe Olympics,” Dr. Hitoshi Oshitani said, speaking at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan. “Right now we don’t have an effective strategy, and I think it may be difficult to have the Olympics (now). But by the end of July we may be in a different situation.”

The timing of the freestyle stroke is important. It will largely depend on what speed and distance the swimmer or triathlete is racing.

In the end, there is no one technically perfect stroke to suit all swimmers and triathletes.

It’s a matter of finding what works best for you as an individual and consistently practicing it in training at or near competition speeds.

  • This edible blob filled with water means you don’t need a plastic bottle

Runners in a half-marathon in London on March 1 might be a little confused at the water stations, where instead of getting water in a plastic cup or bottle, they’ll be handed an edible water-filled pod. The package, which is also compostable, is made from seaweed and plant extracts. You simply bite the corner off and drink.

“What we want to do is have a bulletproof solution—regardless of where it ends up, our packaging will not create negative consequences,” says Pierre-Yves Paslier, cofounder of Notpla, the startup that makes the packaging. “If nature can deal with it if it ends up in the wrong place, that’s the ultimate kind of protection.”
