  • Coronavirus: Minneapolis to shut down beaches, waterparks for entire summer

There will be no hanging out at the beach or outdoor water parks in Minneapolis this summer.

The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board has decided that due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, it’s shutting down its outdoor aquatics facilities for the entire summer.

This includes beaches at lakes including Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet, wading pools, waterparks, and the Webber Natural Swimming Pool in North Minneapolis.

“The level of public congregation that takes place at aquatic facilities and the level of staff required to operate these facilities will make it impossible to open and manage these facilities safely this summer,” the parks board says on its website.
