Calaveras County authorities are warning people about a particular swimming hole, especially as Labor Day weekend brings the potential for record-high temperatures. The sheriff’s office says they have rescued six people in the past two weeks from Candy Rock Swimming Hole along the Stanislaus River due to tough terrain and heat. It’s almost a two-mile walk from the parking area to the river access and much of it is downhill and among rough terrain. That means the return walk is uphill.
