A girl who was a member of the Liberty High School swim team was found dead Wednesday night under a pool cover after a swim team practice in Hillsboro, police say.

The girl, identified as 14-year-old Nabila Maazouz, was found underwater at the Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center, according to Hillsboro police. Maazouz was a freshman at Oregon Episcopal School and a member of the Liberty High School swim team, which had just finished practicing at the facility.

Authorities said the swimmers pulled a cover over the pool before leaving the water. As the team was leaving the facility, they noticed Maazouz was missing. She was found under the pool cover 20 to 25 minutes later, officials said. A police spokesman said it was unclear if she was under the cover when it was pulled over the pool.
