Now after the big spring selections for Berlin and Glasgow 2014, we can conclude that the state of Danish swimming is good, at least on the women’s side. Their 2012 female Olympians all posted at top-8 times, Mie Ø. Nielsen bettered the Nordic records in the 50 and 100 back, and Rikke Møller Pedersen has 4 of the 8 fastest results ever in the 200 meter breaststroke.

According to SwimVortex’s Swimming World Rankings, Jeanette Ottesen now has the 5th fastest time of 24.54 in the 50 freestyle, 25.62 and 3rd in the 50 butterfly, and 57.78 and 6th in the 100 butterfly.

Pernille Blume has the 7th ranked time of 24.59 in the 50 freestyle, and 53.69 and 7th in the 100 freestyle.

Young Mie Ø. Nielsen has the fastest 2014 time of 27.76 in the 50 back, and 59.36 and second-fastest in the 100 back. Both times were new Nordic records.

Lotte Friis swam 8:28.65 and 8th fastest this year in the 800 meter freestyle, at the US Grand Prix in Austin.

But most impressive were the world leading times of Rikke Møller Pedersen in the 200 meter breaststroke, first 2:19.94 at the 2014 Danish Open and then 2:19.61 at the Eindhoven Swim Cup. Plus the second-fastest 2014 time of 1:06.19 in the 100 breast, and 31.08 and 7th in the 50.

Rikke Møller Pedersen’s results were so good, that she now holds 4 of the 8 fastest times ever in the 200 meter breaststroke. – If I have looked it up correctly, that is.

The Danish Swimming Federation selected 15 swimmers for the Berlin 2014 Euro Champs at the Trials in March, one more a week later after a meet in Canada. Of these, 6 are men and 2 from the so-called “Great Danes” team of young and promising male swimmers.
