Sprinter James Roberts is struggling to overcome a back injury for the Commonwealth Games trials as mystery surrounds two of his infamous relay teammates from the London Olympics.
Roberts has entered the trials in Brisbane starting on April 1, despite not having raced since the world titles.
Matt Targett and former world record holder Eamon Sullivan also have submitted entries, to the surprise of many in the sport.
Targett has been in the US for most of the summer, with Swimming Australia and his own coach unsure of his intentions this year until an entry was submitted for trials.
Sullivan had surgery after the London Olympics and shifted his focus towards running his Perth cafe, but had secretly been training for a comeback and entered the 50m freestyle.
Officials yesterday said they understood he may not race in Brisbane after recently sustaining a shoulder injury.
