On the fourth day of the FINA 2012 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul, Turkey, Ryan Lochte (USA) broke the 100 IM world record, clocking 50.71 in the semi where Peter Mankoc’s record from Istanbul 2009 was 50.76. Ruta Meilutyte (LTU) set a new championships record in the women’s 100 breaststroke, clocking 1:03.52 where Rebecca Soni’s record from Dubai 2010 was 1:03.98. Nicolas Santos (BRA) set yet another championships record in the men’s 50 butterfly, clocking 22.22 where his record from yesterday was 22.23. Ye Shiwen (CHN) set a new championships record in the women’s 200 IM, clocking 2:04.64 where Mireia Belmonte’s record from Dubai 2010 was 2:05.73. Robert Hurley (AUS) won the men’s 50 backstroke in 23.04, and USA the women’s 4×100 freestyle in 3:31.01. See a full race report for instance here on SwimmingWorld.
