Istanbul 2012 Day 3: Lochte breaks the 200 IM WR

On the third day of the FINA 2012 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul, Turkey, Ryan Lochte (USA) smashed his own 200 IM world record, clocking 1:49.63 where his record from the 2010 World Champs was 1:50.08. Dani Gyurta (HUN) set a new championship record in the men’s 200 breaststroke, clocking 2:01.35 where Naoya Tomita’s record from Dubai 2010 was 2:03.12. Katinka Hosszu set a new championships record in the women’s 100 IM, clocking 58.49 where Ariana Kukor’s record from Dubai 2010 was 58.65. Britta Steffen (GER) won the women’s 100 freestyle in 52.31, Daryna Zevina (UKR) the women’s 200 backstroke in 2:02.24, Lu Ying (CHN) the women’s 50 butterfly in 25.14, Paul Biedermann (GER) the men’s 400 freestyle in 3:39.15, Melanie Costa Schmid (ESP) the women’s 400 freestyle in 4:01.18, Vladimir Morozov (RUS) the men’s 50 freestyle in 20.55, and Denmark the women’s 4×100 medley in 3:49.87.
