The Summit: “Women’s Swimming Team Getting Their ‘Feet Wet’”
Stonehill is getting its “feet wet” with the addition of women’s swimming to the varsity athletics program.
“We always look for new opportunities for student-athletes – since swimming is a Northeast-10 sport and one we don’t offer one, we wanted to add swimming,” Director of Athletics Dean O’Keefe said.
The addition of the women’s swimming team was announced in September 2019 and with that came the search for a head coach of the team.

Watch Mack Horton And Ian Thorpe Discuss The Future Of Sport
Two athletes who know all about competing at the highest levels are Aussie Olympics champions of the pool, Ian Thorpe and Mack Horton. Twenty years ago, 17-year-old Thorpe turned from a teenager into a worldwide sensation, when he took home three gold and two silver medals from the iconic Sydney Olympic Games. He has since gone on to cement his place in Australian sporting history, winning five Olympic and 11 world championship gold medals along the way.
Mack Horton might have been a little too young to compete in Sydney – he was just four at the time – but has since proved himself one of the country’s most gifted swimmers, winning Olympic gold at Rio in 2016. Next, he has realigned his training regime, as he sets his eyes on the Tokyo Games in 2021.Â
Fair to say it’s been a big year. And since 2020 has been all about change – some good, some bad – we wanted to take a moment to celebrate those who are shaping the world we live in.
