Patrick Sammon’s passion for the water is crystal clear. He took the first jump at around age 3 — and has been swimming ever since. Although the pandemic presented many challenges for athletes, Patrick says it actually worked out in his favor. He’s also committed to Arizona State to train under the legendary Bob Bowman, the former coach of the most decorated Olympian of all time: Michael Phelps. Patrick is just the latest Sacramento area swimmer to own the Olympic dream, as he recently qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter freestyle races. It was like a scene right out of the movie “Jaws†when a swarm of sharks circled the waters in Florida right where people were swimming. One woman looked shocked and froze in fear on her yellow liferaft, telling others to be quiet.
