In 2019, Tunisia’s Ahmed Hafnaoui told French outlet La Presse that his ultimate goal was to win an Olympic gold medal.
At that time, however, he was thinking about the Paris Summer Games in 2024.
The 18-year-old was just supposed to be gaining some much-needed Olympic experience in 2020, but apparently, he decided to move up his timeline.

Mona McSharry the First Irish Swimmer to Win Junior World Championship Gold
Sligo’s Mona McSharry will represent Ireland at the Olympic Games in both the 100M and 200M Breastroke. McSharry is a trailblazer in Irish swimming. The current University Of Tennessee swimmer became the first Irish swimmer to win a Junior World Championship gold medal.
The Sligo woman is the current holder of the Irish senior record for the 50M, 100M, 200M Breaststroke, as well as the 50M Butterfly events. McSharry’s personal best in the 100M Breastroke stands at 1:06:29 and 2:25:92 in the 200M Backstroke.
The swimmer who swam for the Ballyshannon Marlins club won a senior European short-course bronze medal in 2019. This followed up silver and bronze at Junior Europeans back in 2016 and two golds the following year.
