Erin Robertson | Lessons of Age Group Burnout in Swimming | Propulsion Swimming
This week on the Propulsion Swimming Podcast we are joined by Erin Robertson.
At age 16 Erin was Commonwealth Youth Champion and an age group record holder. However just 14 months later she was left feeling like a complete and utter failure, and as if she had let down every last person who had ever supported her. Because of those feelings, she left the sport.
That was roughly 5/6 years ago and since then, she has returned to competitive swimming and has a newfound love for the sport again.
We wanted to speak to Erin on this week’s episode to discuss what lessons can be taken away from her journey through the sport, especially as an age group swimmer. Whether that be her USRPT training, racing at national championships at an age as young as 12, and how the pressure put on her by the media affected her mental health.
We hope that others can improve their own journey through the sport by listening to this conversation and know if you step away from the sport of swimming, the enjoyment can come back just like it has for Erin!
