A Nebraska child has died after becoming infected with the “brain-eating” amoeba Naegleria fowleri, health officials confirmed.
The child – whose name or age has not been released – most likely became infected while swimming in the Elkhorn River. The child began showing symptoms about 5 days after swimming in a shallow area of the river, CNN reported.
