Quite interesting that Libby Trickett took only one breath when breaking world record in the long course 50 meters freestyle at the Australian Trials, when she a few days earlier took what seems like more than 30 breaths in the also world record breaking 100.

The Australian gold medallist from Athens 2004 expects a lot from the upcoming Swimming World Championships in Manchester. “It’s an Olympic year, world records have been tumbling and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a few more set in Manchester”.

As stated in this press release, Swimming South Africa has been informed that during the FINA Swimming World Cup in Belo Horizonte (BRA), swimmer Keri-Leigh Shaw tested positive for the substances Clenbuterol and Ephedrine.

Clenbuterol and Ephedrine are decongestants and bronchodilators used by for instance people with astma. Clenbuterol is also a non-steroidal anabolic and metabolism accelerator, and Ephedrine an amphetamine-like stimulant, which is probably why they are classified as doping.

Ms. Keri-Leigh Shaw is now provisionally suspended until a hearing before the FINA Doping Panel can be made, following the analysis of the B-sample.
