Behold Swumanoid, a bot created by researchers at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, to reproduce a swimmer’s full body movement and measure water resistance in an effort to shed some light on the forces acting on swimmers. Not so fast yet, PB 2:30 over 100 meters, but maybe one day … Via Engadget

10-20-30 training concept improves health and performance with less training
Researchers at the University of Copenhagen have come up with a new training concept for runners that shows an increase in health and performance of up to a minute on a 5K run despite a 50% reduction in amount of training. They say that 30 minute is all you need, therefore easily adapted into a busy life, and since it deals with relative speeds interspersed with rest and low-speed running, individual with different fitness levels can perform it together. Read more here on ku.dk, via Lifehacker. The 10-20-30 training concept consists of a 1-km warm-up at a low intensity followed by 3-4 blocks of 5 minutes running interspersed by 2 minutes of rest. Each block consists of 5 consecutive 1-minute intervals divided into 30, 20 and 10 seconds of running at a low, moderate and near maximal intensity, respectively.

Der Spiegel visits Sander in Vági to talk about Alex
German news giant Der Spiegel recently contacted Sander E. Smørdal of simma.nu/no, long-time friend and training partner of Alexander Dale Oen, requesting an interview in Bergen. Problem only that Sander left for the Faroe Islands the Monday following Alex’s burial Friday, to train Jón Bjarnason’s squad in Vági until mid June, while Jón is on altitude camp with Pál Joensen and the Danish Olympic team in the U.S. Well, then Der Spiegel comes here, world media yet again setting it scopes on these minute islands, albeit coincidentally.

Danish swimmers on small bikes in Leadville
The Danish Olympic team going for a bike ride at 3000 meters altitude in Leadville, Colorado, judging by their faces very early in the morning. Paulus Wildeboer looking sceptical at the BMX-size bike that he got, and Bjarnason apparently giving up on the idea entirely :-)

Israel’s Kopelev books London 2012 ticket
Nine days after becoming the first ever Israeli swimmer to claim gold at the European Championships, Jonatan Kopelev booked his place at the London Olympics on Saturday, clocking a time of 54.38 seconds in the 100 backstroke in a competition in Slovenia. He and Guy Barnea were given one last chance to set the Olympic Qualifying Time of 54.40s on Saturday, and Kopelev did so by two hundredths of a second to reach his first Olympics, while Barnea will miss out on the Olympics after participating in the Beijing Games four years ago. Read more here on The Jerusalem Post.
