    At the British Gas ASA National Swimming Championships today, Chris Walker-Hebborn (1:57.17) and Marco Loughran (1:58.34) qualified for the London 2012 Games in the men’s 200 backstroke, while Ieuan Lloyd beat David Carry in the men’s 200 freestyle, 1:47.55 to 1:47.86.   • FINA invites four Finnish swimmers to the Olympics

    The Finnish swimming federation announces here that FINA has invited Ari-Pekka Liukkonen, Matti Mattsson, Emilia Pikkarainen and Hanna-Maria Seppälä for the London 2012 Games, in addition to 1500m swimmer Matias Koski who qualified in early April. Sports director Ippe Natunen comments: ‘This is truly a wonderful thing! We aimed to have five swimmers at the London Games, it was a difficult goal, and now it is being fulfilled.’ Via simma.nu/fi

    At the British Gas ASA National Swimming Championships 2012 today, David Carry booked a spot at his third Olympic Games, overhauling Ieuan Lloyd on the final 50m in the men’s 400 freestyle to set a lifetime best of 3:46.86, old PB being 3:47.17 from Beijing 2008. An impressive comeback after the Trials in March when he was only 0.23 seconds from making the qualifying time of 3:48.92.

    “I’ve never been so emotional after a swim before,” said Carry. “Just before the first trials I had a back injury which was the first time I’ve had an injury my whole career.”
