Ryk Neethling is a four-time Olympian but has now turned his skill into a business. We talk to Ryk about how and why he started Swimming Stars, a swim school as well as his management of recent Olympic gold medallists Cameron van der Burgh and Chad le Clos. We focus on a sportsman turning his skill into a business.

No kidding, a cow for each Olympic champion, that’s how a South African entrepreneur decided to honor six of his country’s athletes who won gold medals in the London Games. Swimmer Cameron van der Burgh chose to have his cow processed into 140kg of boerwors, a popular thick aromatic beef sausage, which he donated to a local orphanage. Chad le Clos, Olympic champion in the 200-meter butterfly swim, has not yet made his decision. Read for instance Straits Times and RT

Germany’s Paul Biedermann seated between Mona Simonsen and Pál Joensen of the Faroe Islands, at the Istanbul 2009 European Short Course Championships. Ireland to the left of Birita and then France. Definitely of the perks of big swim meets, that the seating for teams is so cramped, that you get to rub shoulders with the big names :-)

I’ve been enjoying the ‘WordPress White Screen of Death‘ tonight, which could have meant that I would have to recreate the entire site, maybe even with difficulties salvaging content off the old one. But thanks to Dan & Ben at Dreamhost, it seems to work OK again. Phew … now for some backup routines!
