On August 18, 7 Action News photographer Chris Jones was shooting underwater scuba video of the ship wreck of the William Young. While surfacing, Chris lost his personal camera in the rough waters and it kept recording as it fell over 110 feet, right into the cargo hold of the wreck. Chris was unable to retrieve it at the time, but a week later two divers from Milwaukee found it and mailed it back to him. See wxyz.com

Phelps signs deal with Sol, auctions off his London 2012 headphones
Michael Phelps landed an endorsement deal with Sol Republic today, the headphones brand he used at the London 2012 Olympics, quite visibly until someone told him to cover their logo with tape. Read ESPN
“He absolutely loves this brand,” said his agent Peter Carlisle. “I mean, he was wearing them anyway.”
As part of the deal, Sol will begin selling Phelps-inspired headphones on its eBay store on Tuesday, in addition to auctioning off 21 of the headphones Phelps wore before his Olympic races. The proceeds of the auction will go to the Michael Phelps Foundation.

Van Der Burgh and Le Clos get a cow each for winning gold at London 2012
No kidding, a cow for each Olympic champion, that’s how a South African entrepreneur decided to honor six of his country’s athletes who won gold medals in the London Games. Swimmer Cameron van der Burgh chose to have his cow processed into 140kg of boerwors, a popular thick aromatic beef sausage, which he donated to a local orphanage. Chad le Clos, Olympic champion in the 200-meter butterfly swim, has not yet made his decision. Read for instance Straits Times and RT

CC photo #249: Biedermann crammed in between the Faroese at Istanbul 2009
Germany’s Paul Biedermann seated between Mona Simonsen and Pál Joensen of the Faroe Islands, at the Istanbul 2009 European Short Course Championships. Ireland to the left of Birita and then France. Definitely of the perks of big swim meets, that the seating for teams is so cramped, that you get to rub shoulders with the big names :-)

Close call tonight
I’ve been enjoying the ‘WordPress White Screen of Death‘ tonight, which could have meant that I would have to recreate the entire site, maybe even with difficulties salvaging content off the old one. But thanks to Dan & Ben at Dreamhost, it seems to work OK again. Phew … now for some backup routines!
