The parents of a former University of Cincinnati swimmer who was killed last year by an intoxicated driver told the man in court Monday that they forgive him, our media partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer report.
But John Miller’s father asked why 51-year-old Donte Beenie left Miller to die on Gilbert Avenue in Walnut Hills after striking him with his car.
“What kind of person does that?” Miller’s father, Kevin, said at Beenie’s sentencing Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.
“I forgive you, but I do not feel sorry for you,” he added.

‘A Part of Me’: Ariarne Titmus on Where She Got Her ‘Fight’ | Sky News Australia
The Courier Mail’s Robert Craddock speaks with Olympic swimming champion Ariarne Titmus about where she may have gotten her “fight”.
Ms Titmus spoke at the Courier-Mail’s Future Brisbane editorial campaign and event on Friday which explored how the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games can be a catalyst for improving liveability across the city.
She had suffered complications at birth where the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck and she had struggled to breathe.
“I believe that there’s something inside of me that kind of got me going – I could’ve not made it but I believe that I’ve kind of carried that throughout my life,” she told Mr Craddock.
“And I feel like I have that fight when I race and not just in swimming but me as a person.”

Newcastle Free Diver Michaela Werner Breaks Underwater Swimming World Record in Pool
Perhaps Newcastle woman Michaela Werner should have been a mermaid.
The 44-year-old free diver set a new world record on Friday, becoming the first woman to swim 101 underwater laps of a 25-metre pool in an hour.
Ms Werner was able to come up and take a breath after each lap, but was limited to just 10 seconds above the surface.
In total, she swam just over 2.5 kilometres underwater and held her breath for at least 42 minutes of the hour.
“It definitely stretched my limits,” she said.
