A view from my house last Sunday, the team of masters swimmers from Havnar Svimjifelag arriving in style on the good ship Norðlýsið, to participate in the open water event across the firth Skálafjørður in the Faroe Islands. They should have had the sails up, that would have looked even better :-)

Behold Jon Hestoy’s swim cap, scooped out of the sea during the ocean swim across the firth Skálafjørður here in the Faroe Islands, June 16th, 2013. He lost it with maybe 400 meters to go, and swam the rest cap-less in the 7°C (45°F) ‘warm’ water. It made a difference, he said. Hestoy is president of the Faroese Swimming Association. He managed to come in 2nd in the ~1700 meter race.

Paltrinieri new 1500 SC World Champion, as Glæsner loses his medal
The Danish Swimming Federation today specifies in a new press release, that Mads Glæsner will not only lose his 400 meter freestyle bronze medal from the Istanbul 2012 World Championships (25m), but also his 1500 meter freestyle gold medal. This means that the world championship honor goes to Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri, the silver medal to Faroe Island’s Pál Joensen, and the bronze medal to Poland’s Mateusz Sawrymowicz.

Thousands brave chilly Windermere for Great North Swim
Ages and abilities ranged from those taking part for the first time to Swansea swimmer Tom Allen, who won today’s elite men’s race to cheers from the packed crowd.
After storming to victory in a time of 17 minutes and 11 seconds, he told the Gazette: “I’m pleased with my time.

American Christine Jennings, currently ranked fifth in the world, won the elite women’s race this morning, saying the water was “very choppy and coldâ€.
Organisers said the water temperature was 15.4 Celcius when the first swimmers set off.
