Olympic medalist Federica Pellegrini says her romance with fellow swimming sensation Filippo Magnini is over. “We are very disappointed to announce that our love affair is over,” Pellegrini, who won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2008, said in an interview Thursday with ANSA.
Reports of trouble between the pair had been circulating for years. Speaking from France, where both are training for the world championships in Barcelona in August, Pellegrini said that she and Magnini will continue to train together.
“Sometimes it’s just that the feeling fades,” she said. “We will continue our journey in professional sports, focusing only on that”.
The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) introduces the International Selection Committee’s Class of 2013. The ten individuals inducted were: Swimmers GARY HALL, JR. (USA), PIETER VAN DEN HOOGENBAND (NED), YANA KLOCHKOVA (UKR) and DAGMAR HASE (GER); Diver HU JIA (CHN); Synchronized Swimmer NATHALIE SCHNEYDER (USA); Water Polo Player MILIVOJ BEBIC (YUG, CRO); Open Water Swimmer CLIFF LUMSDON (CAN); Coach ALBERTO CASTAGNETTI (ITA) and in the Contributor category, PETER MONTGOMERY (AUS).
The class of 2013 was formally inducted at the International Swimming Hall of Fame’s 49th Annual Induction Ceremonies on Saturday, May 11th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (USA).

“SPLASH” is the Westside Family YMCA’s free water safety program for fourth graders attending local Title I LAUSD schools. During these lessons students develop or improve swimming skills, learn about water safety, and emphasize the importance of character, honesty, respect and responsibility.
All participants emerge from the program with skills to help them be safe in an aquatic environment.

The co-founder of a prominent Northern Virginia swim club was sentenced Thursday to serve seven years in prison for sexually abusing a student.
Rick Curl pleaded guilty back in February to abusing Kelley Currin 30 years ago. Currin was a swimmer at the Curl-Burke Swim Club, which Curl co-founded.
Curl was sentenced to 15 years, with all but seven of those suspended, and must complete five years of probation and alcohol treatment. He must also register as a sex offender.
