Parents encouraged to keep close eye on kids in the pool

Potentially record-breaking heat this week has metro area kids flocking to local pools to cool off.
The drowning of a 4-year-old boy in Thornton, Sunday, has the American Red Cross sending a reminder for parents to keep a close eye on their kids at the pool.
“Most cases of drowning occur with kids that are under the age of six due to a lack of parental supervision,” said Wheat Ridge Aquatics Supervisor Barb Kloberdanz.

Teen drowns after falling into Hollywood canal

The search for a 17-year-old swimmer who had fallen into a canal on Sunday while he was playing with friends ended almost three hours later with the discovery of his body.
Witnesses said the accident happened right before 8 p.m. at the canal located behind Oakwood Plaza on Stirling Road and Oakwood Boulevard in Hollywood.
