Rebecca Adlington has described Bill Furniss as a ‘natural born leader’ as the man who guided her to four Olympic medals enjoys his first weeks as British head coach.
‘He has the knowledge, he is so experienced. Having been head coach at the 1996 Olympics he knows that role so well.
‘He commands respect from both coaches and swimmers. Bill has great communication skills – which is a two-way thing – and swimmers feel they can talk to him.
‘He’s a natural born leader – he’s fair, he doesn’t favour people. It’s really good.’

I’m following Danish Olympian Anders Lie Nielsen in particular – He was trying to qualify for the Barcelona 2013 World Championships, but apparently missed out, clocking 1:49.67 in the 200 free where the Danish qualification time is 1:48.23, and 3:54.09 where the qualification time is 3:49.55.
As seen from the athletes stand, Germany’s Britta Steffen 2009 World Champion in the women’s 50 freestyle, with a new world record of 23.73 at the FINA 2009 World Championships in Rome, Italy. See the result list here.
