School’s out, which means that there will be no more public swimming either, this side of summer. The flag half-mast is in memory of our dear old school janitor and lifeguard, who passed away this week, 74 years young. I made it a (relatively speaking) swift 1500 meter in his honor.

Olympic gold medalist Tyler McGill says he hopes to swim in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
But it’s not as if the 25-year-old Champaign Central product has booked a hotel suite in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
“I’m just going year by year. It’d be really difficult to put all your efforts into something that’s 31/2 years away,†McGill said Monday on the eve of the U.S. Championships in Indianapolis. “Rio is out there. But I don’t want to throw all my eggs in one basket at this time.â€
