Not my best shot, but the best one I’ve got from when Therese Alshammar won gold in the women’s 100 meter short course butterfly, at the FINA 2010 World Cup meet in Stockholm, Sweden. Also in the picture Sarah Sjöström (Sweden) on lane 5 and Jeanette Ottesen (Denmark) on lane 6. And a man with a bucket. See the result list here.

An Oregon teen who did not know how to swim was listed in critical condition Tuesday after being under water for more than 30 minutes, officials said.

Cesar Campuzano, 15, was rescued by the Newberg Dive Rescue team and the sheriff’s marine patrol Monday evening, after he leaped into the river at Rogers Landing, Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Tim Svenson said.

“What happened was basically they [Campuzano and some friends] were down on the dock and they were all in the water, they knew he couldn’t swim and he said he couldn’t,” Svenson said. “They thought he was joking, and as they were getting out he jumped in.”

Svenson said three teenage boys tried to retrieve Campuzano out of the water but he kept crawling over them, proving too heavy to be lifted out of the water.

Swimming Australia has plunged into an $8 million black hole after being dumped by their major sponsor in the wake of the toxic culture, Stilnox and donkey scandals to rock the sport.

The Courier-Mail can reveal that principal partner of Swimming Australia, Energy Australia, this week dumped their major sponsorship of the sport, fed up with the string of scandalous headlines.

The company had signed a five-year agreement in February 2012, a lucrative arrangement believed to increase in value every year until 2017.

Insiders suggest it was valued at $2m in 2013, which would be an enormous blow for the sport as it constituted almost half of Swimming Australia’s annual revenue for corporate sponsorship. […]
