15-year-old Cesar Campuzano died at 7:35 a.m. on Thursday, three days after he jumped into the Willamette River at Rogers Landing Park in Newberg, Oregon. He remained underwater for 30 minutes until rescuers were able to pull him from the river.

Witnesses said Campuzano jumped off a dock into the river on Monday as he was playing with several other boys. He thought the water was shallow then panicked when he realized how deep it actually was.

“I know he couldn’t swim. I don’t know why he would jump in,” said friend Jesus Valdez. “We’ve gone to the river and we’ve asked him a lot to jump in and he’s responded to us with a ‘no.’ I don’t know why he decided to jump in that day.”

A video off svoem.dk, Denmark’s new national coach Nick Juba talking about opportunities and challenges for Danish Swimming. There is also a new (English-written) interview with him here on svoem.dk, where he answers four quick questions related to him coaching Jeanette Ottesen at the Mare Nostrum meet in Monaco, this weekend.

    – I plan for Shannon to be very much in charge of the swimmers he coaches directly at Bellahoy, and my role will be to take an overview of these swimmers and offer different opinions and angles if needed. I will directly be looking after Denmark’s other top-class swimmers in Barcelona.

    Uh oh, read Gizmag

Along with its nihilistic cyberpunk style, the film The Matrix is famous for popularizing what’s known as “bullet time” photography. You know the shots where someone would run and jump, then they’d freeze and the camera would appear to track around them as they were frozen in mid-air? That’s bullet-time. Now, that same technology may be coming to live televised sporting events.
