Wanda Gregg is 56 years old, and she is learning how to swim.

The Lancaster woman never learned the skill as a kid. Now she has two grandsons and she wants to be able to be in the pool with them.

“We started with breathing, blowing bubbles — the basic stuff. That’s what I needed,” she says of a six-week adult swimming class she recently completed at Universal Athletic Club in Manheim Township.

A view from my house last Sunday, the team of masters swimmers from Havnar Svimjifelag arriving in style on the good ship Norðlýsið, to participate in the open water event across the firth Skálafjørður in the Faroe Islands. They should have had the sails up, that would have looked even better :-)

Behold Jon Hestoy’s swim cap, scooped out of the sea during the ocean swim across the firth Skálafjørður here in the Faroe Islands, June 16th, 2013. He lost it with maybe 400 meters to go, and swam the rest cap-less in the 7°C (45°F) ‘warm’ water. It made a difference, he said. Hestoy is president of the Faroese Swimming Association. He managed to come in 2nd in the ~1700 meter race.
