Danes to keep momentum with big squads, Great Danes, Smart Track projects
So I wrote this piece for SwimmingWorld, yesterday, and fortunately got good help there to clean it up language-wise. Danish Swimming seems to be in very good hands.
At the 2013 Danish Aqua Clinic this weekend, the Danish National Team trio of sports director Mikkel von Seelen, head coach Nick Juba and national training center coach Shannon Rollason presented a bold new plan to keep the momentum going from a successful 2013 World Championships in Barcelona as the Danes focus on Rio 2016.
The plan going forward is that Denmark will be represented with record large squads at the Herning 2013 and Berlin 2014 European Championships, while working on strengthening the male and future aspects of Danish swimming with initiatives coined “The Great Danes” and “Smart Track,” respectively.

Read also this article on svoem.dk, where Nick Juba describes the Great Danes initiative
“I expect this to be an exciting new adventure for the Danish men who have lived in the shadows of our women’s team in recent years. It is a new focus and offers our best male swimmers the opportunity to step-up on the international stage. The Great Danes label needs to be synonymous with fast swimming!”

Gerhard Zandberg hits out at Swimming South Africa
Read Eyewitness NewsSwimmer Gerhard Zandberg on Monday told Eyewitness News Sport that he is hoping his Swimming South Africa appeal hearing will be a catalyst for change in swimming.
Zandberg was served with a R5,000 fine and ordered to do community service after switching rooms at the recent World Championships without consent.
He lodged an appeal against the sanction on his return to South Africa.
Zandberg says his roommate Cameron van der Burgh was sick and that his plea to move went unanswered.
The swimmer eventually changed rooms, at his own expense, before being disciplined in Barcelona just hours before his semi-final race in the 50 metres backstroke.
