“During our Summer Swim Camps 2013 Gary Hall Jr. spoke to Campers about the importance of Pre Race Ritual Routine. “Gary is well known for his “pro-wrestling like” antics before a competition; frequently strutting onto the pool deck in boxing shorts and robe, shadow boxing and flexing for the audience.” He talks about how you can use simple techniques during your own swim training program that can teach you how to trigger ‘the zone’ and Race at your very best.”

Swimming Australia’s ‘Stilnox six’ have escaped any further punishment from the AOC for their behaviour at London 2012, but have been warned that any further breach of conduct could render them ineligible for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Eamon Sullivan, Matt Targett, James Magnussen, James Roberts, Tommaso D’Orsogna and Cameron McEvoy were involved in a controversial bonding session before last year’s London Olympics which involved taking the sleeping drug Stilnox.

An Irish distance swimmer had to abandon a historic attempt to swim from Ireland to Wales after he began to show signs of hypothermia.

Steve Redmond (47) was advised by his support team to quit the 80km swim five hours after he left Wexford in an attempt to make the crossing to St David’s.

The west Cork swimmer, who last year won the Seven Oceans Challenge by swimming the most difficult sea channels on the planet, was today said to be “very disappointed” by the decision.

Australia’s controversial men’s freestyle relay team will be punished by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) on Friday.

The six Australian men’s freestyle swimmers face sanctions including loss of AOC funding as a result of their ill-fated bonding session before last year’s London Olympics.

The swimmers – Eamon Sullivan, Matt Targett, James Magnussen, James Roberts, Tommaso D’Orsogna and Cameron McEvoy – have already been fined and given suspended sentences by Swimming Australia.

But the specific penalties from Swimming Australia have not been detailed, beyond the sport’s peak body saying the swimmers were fined and given “deferred suspensions for breaches of their behavioural obligations”.
