A record-winning Indian lifeguard from Dubai is aiming to swim the English Chanel with his hands and legs tied — and set a world record in the process.

Ratheesh Radhakrishnan, 32, who works with Anantara Hotels, is no novice when it comes to adventurous stunts in water. The ace swimmer from Kerala has already been featured in the India Limca Book of World Records for a 3-km swim in 40 minutes with his arms and legs tied with bandages in the Arabian sea off Kollam beach in Kerala.

Champion swimmer Arjun Muralidharan has been handed a two-year ban by National Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel after testing positive for stimulant Methylhexaneamine during the All India Police Aquatics Championships in March.

The panel imposed a sanction of two-year ban on Muralidharan, starting October 25, a NADA source told PTI.

“Arjun has been handed a two-year ban. He can appeal to National Anti-Doping Appeal Panel,” the source said.

Muralidharan has won 15 national titles so far. He at one point of time held the national records in 50, 100 and 200 meter butterflies simultaneously.

Just a photo from the LEN 2008 European Short Course Championships in Rijeka, Croatia. We the Faroese were very impressed, as it was as big as one of our only three 25-meter pools in the country back home. Still is.

When Rob Starr decided to swim the English Channel in memory of his father Edward, who had passed away from cancer, he knew he had set himself an enormous challenge.

The 21-mile swim through the freezing waters of one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes would be enough to daunt even someone at the peak of physical fitness.

However Rob had another hurdle to overcome – the 44-year-old businessman suffers from Crohn’s disease and assumed that the cold temperatures would exacerbate the crippling abdominal pains he regularly suffered. What he did not expect was that the icy seawater would actually relieve his agony.

  • Berlingske first major Danish newspaper to launch Swim section

As spotted by SwimNews.dk, Denmark’s oldest newspaper Berlingske has launched a dedicated swimming sports section, as the first of the “big three” broadsheet-quality national daily newspapers, the other two being Jyllands-Posten and Politiken. It is somewhat a surprise that Berlingske beat Politiken to this honor, as Politiken with journalist Allan Nielsen for many years has dominated in reports about swimming among Danish newspapers, although not with its own dedicated section.
