diana-nyad-mask“The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.”

The Other Shore premieres online on September 26th 2013.

The Danish Swimming Federation describes in a press release tonight how a record-number of about 2000 swimmers participated in the 2013 Round Christiansborg open water event in Copenhagen today, that first was delayed 2 hours because of worries about the water quality after a sewage overflow caused by a downpour the night before, and then again 20 minutes because of a torrential downpour at the rescheduled 13:00 start. Barcelona 2013 World Championships 800 and 1500 silver winner Lotte Friis won the women’s 2K event with a time of 22:59, and compatriot Anton Ipsen the men’s event in 22:05. Friis and Ipsen also won the following 4×500 meter Krüger Relay, as part of the Sigma Swim Birkerød team, in a time of 23:47.

2013 Round Christiansborg results can be seen here on svoem.org, Kruger Relay results will be available later tonight on www.openwater.dk

An interesting experiment in our local community pool here at Toftir, Faroe Islands, this September, where all public swimming will be free of charge. It is only a 16 meter pool, and we are only about 1000 people in the village plus a few thousand in surrounding area, so it would be difficult to make any direct profit anyways. This week was also free, even if we are not in September yet, so that was just bonus-bonus :-)
