Milwaukee’s Polar Bear club held it’s annual New Year’s Day swim in Lake Michigan, but shifting winds brought a lot of lake ice to the shores.. making for some tricky footing.

Awesome footage, and a chance to see how it uses its sail.

Coastguards have warned people against going for a New Year’s Day dip in stormy seas after a man trying to swim in 15ft (4.5m) waves sparked a rescue.
Aberystwyth RNLI inshore lifeboat was about to launch at around 07:30 GMT on Wednesday when the man struggled back ashore on the town’s South Beach.
The would-be swimmer, who was wearing a wetsuit, was arrested by police.
Milford Haven coastguard said: “It may just have been in high spirits but it was not in good judgment.”
The coastguard spokesman said the alert was sparked by the swimmer’s friend who became concerned minutes after the man went into the water.
The RNLI crew and Aberystwyth’s coastguard were mobilised and the police and ambulance services called.

A giant yellow duck on display at Taiwan’s Keelung Port is finding little to be happy about this New Year’s Day.
The famed 18-meter inflatable art installation, created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, burst and deflated on Tuesday, leaving locals shocked and disappointed.
Focus Taiwan speculates it might have been a (very hungry?) eagle
It is still unknown what caused the inflatable sculpture to burst, but a women at the scene told reporters she saw what looked like an eagle strike the Rubber Duck with its talons.

Maybe not so surprising; but Pál Joensen was named the Faroese sports name of the year 2013, a few moments ago on national TV. Secured with his silver at the Europeans in Herning, and the silver in the 2013 Duel in the Pool.
