Mayhem about to begin during the “Swim Day” organized by (local club) Havnar Svimjifelag and (federation) Svimjisamband Føroya on Saturday 16 November 2013, here in the Faroe Islands. Two teams and a lot of ping pong balls. When the whistle goes, the teams must try to blow the balls to the start line of the opposing team. The team that gets the most balls to the other wall, wins. Fun.

Olympic skier Julia Mancuso deep into free diving

When she’s not racing down a mountain at 85 mph, three-time Olympic skiing medalist Julia Mancuso loves to strip down from her snowsuit to her swimsuit. In the offseason, you’ll find the Squaw Valley, Calif., native hitting the beaches in Maui, where she lives part-time.
But don’t expect to find the 29-year-old uber-athlete working on her tan. Mancuso, who has already showed her dominance on land — she has more Olympic medals than any other female American Alpine skier — is taking on the sea, too.
Mancuso spent last summer diving headfirst into the sport of free diving.

Girl ‘forced to swim continuously’, parents face attempted murder charge

The parents of a 10-year-old girl are facing charges in a Bloemfontein court for apparently forcing her to practise sport extensively, the Volksblad newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The mother of the girl was warned that she could face up to 10 years in prison for the charges she faced, the newspaper reported.

Two-time Olympic medalist Mitch Ivey, of San Jose, has received a lifetime coaching ban two decades after a history of sexual misconduct with Bay Area female swimmers first became public.
Ivey, once a teammate of Mark Spitz at the famed Santa Clara Swim Club, has 30 days to appeal the decision that was made last week by USA Swimming’s national board of review. […]

ISHOF: Adolph Kiefer Golden Medallion Award
“The International Swimming Hall of Fame presented Adolph Kiefer with the Gold Medallion Award, ISHOF’s highest honor, during the United States Aquatic Sports Convention banquet on September 29, at the Orange County Hyatt Convention Center in Anaheim, CA. In a surprise, USA Swimming also presented Kiefer with a gold medal from the 1936 Olympic Games, to replace the one that had been stolen shortly after he returned from Berlin 71 years ago. The medal was specially cast from the original mold for the occasion by the International Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.”
