Read for instance Sydney Morning Herald

Swimming legend Michael Phelps, winner of most medals in Olympic history, would not be drawn on Wednesday on whether he may come out of retirement for the 2016 Rio Games.

Dubbing the issue the “million-dollar question,” the 28-year-old, winner of 18 gold, two silver and two bronze medals, was visiting Brazil to shoot a commercial with football legend Pele but dodged making any commitment on a possible return to the Olympic arena.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen in three years. I don’t even know what is gonna happen tomorrow,” said Phelps when pressed on a possible return to top competition.

It’s “the million-dollar question,” he laughed.

dick-shoulbergRead SwimmingWorld, backstory that Germantown Academy has apparently fully or partly retired legendary head coach Dick Shoulberg:

Shoulberg finally talked tonight after having ignored media inquiries regarding his leave of absence from the deck. However, there is little doubt that Shoulberg would desire to return to the deck as soon as possible.

“I know I’m old. But I’m efficient and old,” Shoulberg said. “My girls’ team last year broke the [national] record” in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Wednesday 4 December 2013 at 18:00, 25-year-old Chris Christensen had the honor to begin the filling of the 2013 European Short Course Championships pools, on behalf of the Danish national swimming team and federation. This event will be his 8th European Championships, and the first ever in which the Danes have home advantage.

    – “This is just wild. Next week my family and friends will be sitting here,” says Christensen.

It takes 24 hours to fill the competition pool – and a little less to fill the a bit smaller warm-up pool. A total of 2.4 million liters of water, that then needs to be heated from 8 degrees Celsius to the 26 that work best for swimmers.
