Katie Ledecky put an exclamation point on a thrilling meet this afternoon with a world record in the women’s 800m free during the final day of racing at The Woodlands Senior Invite.
Ledecky, who lowered her own world record in the 1500m free on Thursday, broke her second world record of the meet with an 8:11.00 in the 800m free. She cut almost three seconds off her own standard of 8:13.86 from last summer’s FINA World Championships, and was pretty much racing the clock as teammate Isabella Rongione finished almost 30 seconds behind in 8:39.13.
He has chalked up hundreds of kilometres in the water but it is the countless hours swimmer Daniel Tranter has spent throwing leather in a sweaty Campbelltown boxing gymnasium that has braced him to ”fight” every inch of the the 200-metre individual medley event at next month’s Commonwealth Games.

So the Buffalo City Swim Racers held their fist Water Safety Festival at City Honors School on Saturday. They’re teaching kids how to stay safe in the water this summer with a focus on the minority community.
That’s because the CDC says African Americans aged 5 to 14 years of age are three times as likely to drown as white children of the same age.

Seven boats constructed only of careboard and duct tape raced across the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center recently in the first Texas Tech/Lubbock Independent School District STEM challenge.
The boats were all occupied by four middle school students. The O.L. Slaton team won the competition.

In Abano Terme, Italy, the construction of the deepest swimming pool in the world had begun in a hotel named Terme Millepini. Project architect and manager of the hotel, Emanuele Boaretto, started excavation for the Y-40 recently, which is a concept swimming pool for now.
Devoted to driving professionals and amateurs, the pool will be the deepest on the planet, achieving its depth world record with a level of -40 meters below surface.
