Filmed by my father, Bengt Lagus in the 1960´s, I have edited the material. The water temperature was something between 15-18 degrees Celsius this day and it felt really cold for the children, also the air temperature was below 20 C.. The swimming “school” was in Luvia (Verkkoranta) Finland. I have also in the early 1970´s been at this swimming school and we then still did it the same way as here !

Ice-hole swimming is a traditional Russian fun. Winter swimmers are called “walruses” here. “Lipetsk Walrus Club” exists for over 60 years and since then a lot of people have joined our healthy lifestyle community. Winter swimming is popular not only among seniors but also among young people. Lipetsk ‘walruses’ enjoy the cold water as well as the cold air and go for a swim at any time of the day or night! :)
