Cate Campbell sustains wrist injury at Rio Olympic swimming trials after taking ‘an aggressive nap’
Commonwealth record holder Cate Campbell may require a painkilling injection in her right wrist to swim in Tuesday’s 100m freestyle Olympic trial final — all because she slept the wrong way.
Campbell, who injured the wrist when she took what she described as an “aggressive nap†last week, revealed after her heat swim this that a doctor is on standby to administer local anaesthetic into her wrist joint before the final if required.
“I’m an aggressive napper,†she explained. “It was sore in the morning and then I went for a nap during the day and slept on it again.
“It’s pretty good now. We have a doctor on standby in case it needs local but we’re hoping it doesn’t need that. It’s definitely improved. We’ve done some aggressive treatment on it. A bit more rest to come and it should be fine.â€
