The plesiosaur is long extinct, but thanks to a biomechanical engineer, it has been reincarnated — as a robot. This new so-called “robosaur” reveals the secret behind the animal’s odd but powerful swimming style, which could inspire alternatives to boat and submarine propellers.

Drones are becoming an important part of the emergency services. Police are using them to search for missing people, while fire departments test them as a tool to survey dangerous sites. Until now, however, we haven’t seen or heard about them being used by the coastguard. That all changes today, however, as a lifeboat service in Norfolk, England, has started using them in open water. As the BBC reports, they’re equipped with cameras that can live-stream footage to monitors inside the boat. They could prove useful in choppy conditions when the crew can’t see above the waves.

Pyeongchang will be hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics — but not every country is convinced that South Korea hosting is entirely safe. France has become the first country to come out and say that if South Korea cannot guarantee safety from their neighbor, North Korea, it will stay home for the Olympics. North Korea is currently involved in an international standoff over nuclear weapons that has some leaders uneasy.

“If this gets worse and we do not have our security assured, then our French team will stay here,” Laura Flessel said, per RTL radio. “We will not put our team in danger.”
