If you think you are too old to learn a new sport, practice a certain activity, or even break a world record, it’s time to think again.

When Helena, Montana resident Charlotte Sanddal retired at 73, she decided to try a new sport: swimming. Fast forward to the present and 100-year-old Charlotte hasn’t stopped swimming or even slowed down — actually, it’s quite the opposite!

Since turning century old in August 2022, Charlotte has already broken several world records, including in freestyle, at the Huntsman World Senior Games. But she is not stopping there. She plans to be back in the competition next year!

“I owe it all to the swimming, to being here today,” said Charlotte. “I have no health problems. I don’t take any medication, so I am very very very fortunate, but I owe it all to swimming.”
