Spain: Triathlete converts skip container into swimming pool to train during lockdown
Triathlete Isidro Benavent has converted a skip container into a makeshift swimming pool to train with during the COVID-19 lockdown, as footage filmed in his house in Rotova on Saturday shows.
Benavent borrowed a container from the company he works for and installed it in his garage, implementing up all the necessary adjustments to be able to use it as a training pool.
“A truck can’t fit in here. I had to put four round beams under the construction container, and I did like the ancient Egyptians, pushing from the back until it entered,” said the athlete.
“Then I installed the treatment device to have the water like a swimming pool, purified, with its stairs with its chlorine… So that it keeps the water clean for as long as it takes,” added Benavent.
Despite the small size of the container, Benavent uses rubber bands tied to the ankles “so I can swim non-stop, practising the technique, and IÂ do not move forward. And I am all the time swimming, as if I was swimming in the sea or in a proper pool,” he stated.

USA Swimming Releases Guidelines On Reopening Facilities
We believe swimming, like walking, hiking, running, and cycling, is a critical healthy activity within our communities. Swimming does not require direct contact between teammates or coaches and social distancing can be maintained throughout practice. As with all exercise and activity at this time, swimming must comply with standards for social distancing and safety within aquatic facilities. We know, with collaboration between USA Swimming coaches, public health officials, and facility operators we can create safe plans for using aquatic facilities to promote physical and mental health opportunities compliant with public health directives. The CDC has indicated that there is no evidence the disease spreads through treated water. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water.
