  • Shamed Olympian Ryan Lochte dishes on his new documentary

The new documentary, “In Deep with Ryan Lochte,” chronicles the Olympic swimmer’s rise, fall into scandal and efforts to make a comeback.

“A lot of people have a different perception of me, and this documentary is going to basically show you the real me — the downs I’ve had in my life, the ups and how everything has shaped me into who I am today,” Lochte, 35, tells The Post.

Premiering July 15 on Peacock, NBC’s new streaming platform, “In Deep” covers the now-infamous incident at the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil when the bleached-blonde Lochte — a 12-time Olympic medalist — falsely claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint.

He was subsequently dropped by his sponsors and was suspended by USA Swimming for 10 months from competing in domestic and international competitions. In 2018, he was slapped with a 14-month suspension by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for allegedly receiving a “prohibited intravenous infusion” (which he denied).

“I want people to see all that hard work and dedication that I put into my sport to get to where I’m at,” says Lochte. “A lot of people think because I’m such a jokester in life that I just got by by talent. That isn’t the case at all. I busted my butt every day and worked hard to get where I’m at. So you’re going to see a little bit of everything.

Cooper’s home away from home has always been the pool. As a member of the Woodhaven High School swim team, the student practically grew up in the water. But the challenges the soon-to-be junior high school student faces won’t just be setting personal records at swim meets, but learning how to walk again.

It was during a dive not into a school swimming pool, but into his family’s backyard pool when the accident happened.

“When he dove he hit his chest and his neck,” said Savannah, gestured to where he landed. “Right there Cooper came up, realized ‘I can’t swim, I couldn’t move my body,’ he started flaring his arms.”

The John H. Furbee Aquatics Center in Desert Hot Springs reopens Monday morning. The center, like many public pools in the valley, has been shut down due to the pandemic.

The city says they’re reopening the center for the season with new protective measures in place. All patrons will have their temperatures taken upon arrival and need to be wearing face coverings when not in the pool.

Additionally, a six foot social distance must be maintained between people in and out of the pool. A maximum of 20 people will be allowed inside the pool at any given time.

The city also says swim classes will not be offered this season as in years past.

Cristina Zenato needs only two words to describe sharks—nature’s masterpiece. A professional diver in the Bahamas, she loves sharks. Especially the Caribbean reef sharks that flourish around Grand Bahama Island thanks in large part to her efforts to protect them. The sharks swim right up to the woman known as the Shark Dancer and nuzzle against her while she pets them like they’re dogs or cats. We take a dive off Grand Bahama Island with Zenato to learn how she built such a strong bond with these beautiful creatures.
