A Twin Falls man well known in the local BASE jumping community has gone missing, friends say.

Austin Carey was last seen Thursday afternoon. Friends said he was planning to swim across the Snake River near Pillar Falls.

Search and rescue searched the area above and in the canyon. Searchers have asked that no one try to search the site to avoid anyone getting injured.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Jerome County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris McRoberts at 208-308-4138.

If I told you that before I was out of high school I had been in 30+street fights would you believe me? That I’ve been shot at and was standing a matter of feet from another human when he was senselessly shot and killed at a party, that I was involved in organized crime hanging around thieves, murderers, and drug dealers. The list goes on and this is all before graduating high school. A privileged suburban boy growing up as a gangster in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Fortunately I learned from the lessons I needed to, separated myself from the people I needed to and transformed myself into someone I’m happy to be but despite my growth and happiness my life has never lacked craziness. 29 and surprised to be alive. Today is one of those days in which I just want calmness. I want it so bad that I’m breaking down at every ounce of resistance I feel. Today is a day that I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating my past, wondering if I’m destined for a crazy life no matter what I do, good or bad. A smile feels partially forced today but yet I have so many wonderful reasons to smile. I’ve fought so hard for this smile and I’ll continue to fight for it even if my life will never lack craziness.

A 16-year-old boy suffered a non-life-threatening injury Thursday from a shark off Cape Hatteras National Seashore on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

The bite occurred about 4 p.m. Local authorities notified Cape Hatteras National Seashore park rangers that the teen from Oak Ridge, N.C. was being treated at a medical facility in Nags Head for an apparent shark bite injury. The bite occurred in the ocean near Ramp 25, 2.5 miles south of the village of Salvo on Hatteras Island.

A park ranger drove to the medical facility and interviewed the family of the injured teen, who reported that the incident occurred approximately 25 feet offshore while the 16-year-old was jumping over waves on a sandbar.

The boy was treated for his injury and released from the medical facility Thursday evening.
