The Valles family escaped the heat and cooled off in a southern California pool that they rented for the day. The Hollywood Hills oasis belongs to Scott Formby, who lets people use it for 75 dollars an hour. Formby and the Valles family used the Swimply app, a pool-sharing service. Swimply’s founder, Bunim Laskin, told Inside Edition, “We have owners making over 100k a year sharing their pool with their community.”

The Florida Department of Health has issued a health advisory for several Tampa Bay beaches due to high bacteria levels in the water.

The health department does not recommend swimming at Bahia, Ben T. Davis, Davis Islands, Cypress Point, E.G. Simmons, and Picnic Island beaches. Health leaders say water samples showed above normal levels of enterococci bacteria.

The bacteria normally inhabit the intestinal tracts of animals and humans and can cause infections or rashes. According to health leaders, the presence of the bacteria is an indication of fecal pollution – a result of stormwater runoff, pets and wildlife, and human sewage.

Water samples will again be taken next Wednesday, Sep. 8. If bacteria levels have lowered, then the health department says the advisory will be lifted.

Only 3% of children in London aged between seven and 11 can swim competently, Swim England figures show.

Competency measures judged by the governing body included being able to swim 100m without stopping and treading water for at least 30 seconds.

Researchers found that most parents wanted their children to learn but few had recently taken them swimming.

Swim England said they were worried about how few had reached the minimum standard of the “vital life skill”.

An intense storm on Wednesday wreaked havoc in Spain, causing severe flooding in some coastal towns like Alcanar, leaving thousands of people without electricity and forcing the closure of some roads and rail links

The strong water stream overturned and smashed cars as it flooded highways and roads, and one man said “we had to swim out of the cars” to reach safety.

Firefighters kept working on Thursday to retrieve dozens of vehicles trapped in the floodwaters.

Some streets in Alcanar quickly turned into torrents, with a powerful stream of water pushing cars, furniture, and trees towards the coastline.

    No fatalities have been reported.
