This is quite inspirational, Diana Nyad reflecting on her failed swim from Florida to Cuba, comparing it to other of life’s big challenges, like a failed marriage or being let off. *Now*Â I’m rooting for her, like for our own Ove Joensen who rowed 900 nautical miles (1700 km) from the Faroe Islands to Copenhagen in Denmark for 41 days in 1986, but only after having failed twice in 1984 and 1985.

Cooking pot & strong swimming saves grandmother from floods
Desperate to save his grandmother from floodwaters swamping southern Pakistan, Ali Ahmed and three other relatives stuck her in a large metal cooking pot and pulled her to safety through neck-high water. The men swam for several hours through driving rain, unable to rest because the water was too deep, finally reaching a road and transporting her to a hospital where she was treated for acute diarrhea. No sewer pool in Oslo after all
The Norwegian Swimming Federation losts its bid to turn the old sewer facilities under Festningspladsen in Oslo into a water recreational facility, even after the president himself turned up to fight for it. VG reports that the sewer facilities will instead be turned into a gigantic cinema, which I’m sure will only show crappy movies. Via www.simma.nu/no.

96-year-old swimmer recalls 1936 Olympic memories
A good read here on the Gazette.When Mary Lou Skok came across Adolf Hitler, she couldn’t see evil. She couldn’t see a man capable of murdering millions of Jews. She only saw a dictator.
“He was just like Charlie Chaplin,†Skok recalled. “But he didn’t twitch his mustache.â€
Skok went to the 1936 Summer Games in Berlin as an aspiring swimmer, with $75 in her pocket, with an uncomfortable suit that hardly created optimal performance, with the goal of redemption following retirement after she failed to compete in 1932 in Los Angeles.
She returned with $15, minus a medal, coming within 3.2 seconds of a bronze in the 400-meter freestyle, yet with the memories of the four golds won by the late Jesse Owens and with a new perspective of a Nazi regime advocating the superiority of the Aryan race.
