LEN has a new webpage
The European governing body of swimming announced their new website today, www.len.eu, just in time for the Szczecin 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships. One of the really great things about it is the returning photo galleries of Giorgio Scala, typically free for any use except advertisement, if you remember to mention “Deepbluemedia.eu/G.Scala” as author. Actually, I think he’s the guy with the explosive start in my banner image here above :-)

2-year-old boy survives 30 minutes underwater (!)
Not even in ice-cold water, but in the family pool. And he is already bicycling again, saved by the doctors putting him into ‘therapeutic hypothermia‘, where your body is cooled down to almost hibernation, and then slowly brought back to life again. He just woke up and was 100% normal again. Gee, they must rename him ‘dolphin boy’. Via ABC News.

HIV-positive couple jailed for swimming pool sex act
An HIV-positive Edinburgh couple who downed three bottles of vodka before carrying out a sex act in a public swimming pool have been jailed. This was while children were swimming nearby, and when asked to leave the premises, they first asked for their entrance money back, and then spat at police officers and a pool attendant, and bit a police constable in the leg. Three police officers and a member of pool staff had to wait six months to find out if they had been infected with HIV, risk “negligible”, but for one police officer though facing a different risk “because blood was involved.” Nice.
