    Sweet camera system on deck at the Debrecen 2012 European Swimming Championships, the Cineflex HiDEF with gyro-stabilization to provide smooth shots in the air, at sea and on rough terrain. Logo upside down because it is usually mounted on helicopters and stuff like that.

    At the Seven Hills Trophy meet in Rome today, Japan’s Aya Terakawa set a new meet record in the women’s 100 backstroke, clocking 59.42 well under the Olympic Qualifying Time. Italy’s Luca Marin set an impressive new meet record in the men’s 400 IM, clocking 4:12.04 where the OQT is 4:16.46. The women’s 100 freestyle had two Swedes and two Dutch go under the OQT of 54.57.   • 9-year-old Jordan Freer makes Alcatraz swim

    Last month 9-year-old Jordan Freer made the 1.5-mile swim from just off the shore of Alcatraz Island to Crissy Beach as part of the Orca Alcatraz Swim Challenge. Jordan is thought to be the youngest ever female to brave the chilly waters. Read Auburn Journal.

    “It was cold and it was really, really choppy,” Freer said. “Sometimes it was hard to breathe because we were swimming freestyle and you turn your head to breathe and sometimes if you turned it at the wrong time then you would just get a mouth full of water.”

    At the Seven Hills Trophy meet in Rome today, South Africa’s Cameron Van Der Burgh set a new meet record in the men’s 100 breaststroke, clocking 1.00.39 well under the Olympic qualifying standard of 1:00.79. Italy’s Federica Pellegrini won a tight tussle against Denmark’s Lotte Friis in the women’s 400 freestyle, 4:06.03 to 4:06.15, and the women’s 50 freestyle had 5 swimmers under the Olympic qualifying standard of 25.27.
